Governor Alex Otti has described Abia women as the backbone of the state’s progress, saying they have, over the past 34 years, remained “strong development pillars” through their wisdom, resilience, and contributions in education, trade, and community life. He spoke at the 2025 Abia Women Delegates Conference.
Otti announced that 60% of the recently approved ₦2bn support fund for cooperative societies will be allocated to women, particularly in agriculture, to boost economic empowerment. He also noted that women remain the majority beneficiaries of state programs in ICT, vocational training, and farming, stressing that empowering mothers is vital to strengthening families and society.
First Lady, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, urged lawmakers to guarantee 50% inclusion of women in elective and appointed offices. She further revealed a new empowerment plan to support 340 women across the 17 LGAs, helping them grow their businesses and farms.
Both the Governor and First Lady reaffirmed their commitment to advancing women’s education, leadership, and economic opportunities, saying when women thrive, families and communities flourish.
