Four environmental marshals in Delta State were arrested for extorting residents in Oshimili South Local Government Area. The suspects were apprehended on Friday along Summit Road in Asaba, the state capital, while engaging in unauthorized activities.
The four marshals were arrested by the Delta State Environmental Taskforce team led by Chief Agbari, after a tip-off about their extortion activities.
The marshals were operating outside their designated area and without proper authorization, targeting residents for extortion.
Supervisory Officer Comrade Adim Dikedi ordered the immediate detention of the marshals at a police station, emphasizing that any officer caught engaging in such activities would face strict action.
Dikedi warned that environmental marshals are only authorized to operate in the Ogbegonogo Central Market in Asaba, and any officer found operating at odd hours or in unauthorized areas will be arrested.
