Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) Mobile Court had recently arraigned 18 persons and corporate bodies before its mobile court for various environmental offences within the Asaba Capital Territory. 17 of those arraigned were convicted and 1 discharged. Some of the offenders convicted were Otutu Resources along Nnebisi Road, for operating in a dirty environment and trading on the setback; Martins I.C., for dirty premises and trading on setbacks; Turner Bakery, for non-compliance with environmental requirements; and the occupier of Silver House, for discharging obnoxious wastewater into public drains.
Following the arraignment and convictions, DSCTDA Director General Patrick Ukah said Individuals and organizations who violate environmental regulations, including improper disposal of wastewater and waste materials, will continue to face prosecution as there “would be no mercy for persons or organisations found violating environmental regulations in the state capital”.
He also said the agency is committed to enforcing environmental laws and maintaining a clean and healthy capital territory.
The agency runs monthly sanitation monitoring with the Ministry of Environment and Waste Management Board.
Delta State has been using mobile courts since 2024 to speed up prosecution of sanitation offences, after complaints about waste dumping and blocked drains in Asaba and environs.
