LOCAL NEWS: UNIFORM MEN ATTACKS CHURCH ASSAULTS BOTH PASTOR & WIFE.

In a video currently circulating on X, Uniformed men stormed a church, assaulted a pastor, and disrupted service on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Assemblies of God Church, Ughelli, Delta State
The Uniformed men entered during a routine service while worshippers were praying and singing hymns. A substance believed to be tear gas was sprayed directly into the eyes of the pastor and his wife, causing visible distress. Worshippers fled in panic, some struggling to breathe.

The church descended into chaos.
The pastor’s daughter was heard in video footage protesting: “You sprayed tear gas in the eyes of my mother and father, a pastor” The men ordered her to leave, but she refused:

“I will not leave the church”. It’s uncertain whether they belong to a recognised security agency or a private outfit. Some suggest an underlying dispute or enforcement action; others call it excessive force. As of the reports, authorities had not provided a comprehensive account and Nigerians were calling for a transparent investigation.

This incident is separate from the earlier gunmen attack at Elyon Paradise Ministry, Asagba Ogwashi where Apostle Divine Omodia was shot, had 2 fingers cut off, and 6 worshippers were abducted during a night vigil. That involved armed criminals, not uniformed men.

The April 12 Ughelli incident involving uniformed men is still developing, with video circulating online. Delta PPRO SP Bright Edafe has not yet issued a statement on this specific case based on available reports.
