80-year-old Peter Keborkwu was killed by 32-year-old Alex Kehinde, an artisan he hired in Ogwashi Ukwu, Aniocha South Local Government Area, Delta State, near Asaba. Keborkwu hired Alex Kehinde to renovate a property before putting it up for rent. He paid Kehinde N200,000 for mobilization and asked him to bring more hands to finish on time. Kehinde paid the extra labourers but said he and his accomplice Egbon ID still needed their own payment. When payment wasn’t ready, Egbon ID suggested kidnapping Keborkwu to get money.
Both craftsmen kidnapped the landlord on his own property and held him in an upstairs kitchen of the renovated building. Keborkwu later died of suffocation while in their custody. They still contacted Keborkwu’s son and collected ransom Kehinde got N1 million as his share after the old man was already dead.
Police found Keborkwu dead on 3rd February 2026, seated in the kitchen where he was held. SP Bright Edafe, Delta Police PRO, said Kehinde was arrested in Lagos where he fled to squander his N1 million share. The accomplice Egbon ID is still at large.
The case was handled by the Anti-Kidnap and Cybercrime Unit of the Delta State Police Command.
The unfortunate incident has described as a “devilish act”by the Delta State police.
