Chief Chekwas Okorie, founding chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and current chairman of its Board of Trustees, has expressed disappointment over Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s management of the party.
Okorie stated that the party leadership, under Chief Edozie Njoku, has repeatedly urged Soludo to stop sponsoring crisis within APGA, but to no avail.
Okorie noted that respected clergymen, traditional rulers, and business elites in Anambra State have appealed to Soludo to cease his “unprovoked destabilizing war” against the party that gave him the opportunity to become governor after two failed attempts.
Despite the Supreme Court’s decisive judgment affirming Chief Edozie Njoku as APGA’s National Chairman, Soludo has refused to accept the ruling.
Okorie emphasized that APGA is the first Igbo contribution to Nigeria’s political party system since 1923 and has survived multiple attempts at registration. He described the party as “indestructible” and urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to activate disciplinary measures against those engaging in anti-party activities, including Soludo.
The APGA crisis has been ongoing, with Soludo’s faction challenging the trial court’s judgment in the Court of Appeal. On June 28, 2024, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal in a unanimous judgment, affirming Chief Edozie Njoku as the National Chairman of APGA.
Okorie called on Soludo to put the party’s interests above personal interests and work towards peace and reconciliation.
