Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has joined La Liga giants Atletico Madrid from Atalanta in a deal worth €35 million plus €5 million in add-ons. The 28-year-old Nigerian international has signed a long-term contract with the club and is expected to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season.
Lookman had been seeking a transfer from Atalanta, and Atletico Madrid outmaneuvered Fenerbahce and Galatasaray to secure his signature.
“Atlético de Madrid and Atalanta have agreed on the transfer of Ademola Lookman, who has signed for us until 30 June 2030,” Atletico Madrid announced.
Prior to this move to Spain Lookman has been a journeyman in football playing in about 3 European countries (England, Germany and Italy) he has had stints with Charlton Athletic, Everton, twice with RB Leipzig, Fulham and Leicester city before finally moving to Atalanta in June 2023.
Lookman we play a major role as the club secured the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League scoring a hat-trick in the final against the Star-studded Bayer Leverkusen. Things hasn’t gone well for him and the club ever since then and he now leave the Italian side after scoring 55 goals in 137 appearances for them.
