The family of late President Shehu Shagari has announced the passing of his last surviving wife, Hajiya Sutura Shehu Shagari. The announcement was made in a statement signed by Capt. Bala Shagari, the eldest son of the former President and Sarkin Mafaran Shagari.
According to the statement, Hajiya Sutura Shagari died at approximately 3 p.m. on Monday, after a prolonged illness, at the age of 89. Capt. Bala Shagari described his mother as “an embodiment of grace, humility, and quiet strength who lived a life of dignity”.
Hajiya Sutura Shagari was the wife of the late President Shehu Shagari, who served as the President of Nigeria from 1979 to 1983. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who have been left to mourn her passing.
The family has not yet announced the arrangements for her burial, but it is expected that she will be given a dignified funeral befitting her status as the wife of a former President.
