NEWS: TRUMP’S THREAT:AMERICA HAS RIGHT TO STAND FOR NIGERIAN CHRISTIANS-BABACHIR LAWAL

Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has sparked controversy by stating that American Christians have a legitimate right to support and defend Nigerian Christians if they believe they are facing persecution. According to Lawal, this stance is in line with Biblical principles of Christian solidarity and should not be condemned.

During an interview on Channels Television, Lawal responded to allegations by the United States government about attacks on Christians in Nigeria and former U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning of possible military action. He emphasized that the Nigerian government must take responsibility for securing citizens and guaranteeing their welfare, adding that failure to do so leaves room for affected groups to seek help elsewhere.

Lawal cited the concept of “Christian brotherhood” as a basis for defending fellow believers, stating, “In the Bible, we are taught to be our brothers’ keepers. If American Christians decide to come to the aid of Nigerian Christians because they are in distress, that is Biblical. They are within their right to do so if Christians feel they are unable to defend themselves.”

The former SGF also criticized the government’s handling of insecurity, saying that citizens who raise alarm are often met with public attacks rather than being listened to. He expressed frustration with the government’s response to criticism, stating that they often resort to insults and belittling language.

Lawal’s comments have sparked a heated debate, with some arguing that foreign intervention is not the solution to Nigeria’s security challenges, while others see it as a necessary measure to protect vulnerable communities. The Nigerian government has yet to respond officially to Lawal’s remarks.
