ENTERTAINMENT: REMA EXPLAINS WHY HE KEEPS HIS WEALTH PRIVATE.

Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor professionally known as Rema has explained why he deliberately keeps his wealth private and avoids flaunting it on social media.

Speaking in an interview with Jam FM, the 26-year-old Benin city-born singer said he is conscious of his influence on young people who look up to him:
“A lot of young people look up to me, whether they are fans or not. I have something they want or dream of, so I do my best not to make anyone feel bad about themselves or feel pressured”

He said constant displays of luxury could make struggling youths feel inadequate and rush their own journeys: “Everybody has their time, but some people just want to rush it because they see their fellow young person doing well… I just care about the kids who are under pressure”

Rema added that pressure doesn’t only come from celebrities:
“Parents do that as well; they compare a lot. A lot of kids are in school studying what they don’t want to study because their parents want them to have good jobs.”

On his own lifestyle, he said he prefers simplicity and streetwear over designer fashion:
“I really don’t do too many designers. The only thing that is really lavish about me may be my chains or watches”

He reiterated:
“I don’t want anybody to rush their time or pressure themselves because of me. I just like to keep it simple.”
