The family of Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive detained since March 2024, has issued a heartfelt plea for justice after his latest bail application was denied on Friday.
Despite presenting medical evidence of his deteriorating health, the court has repeatedly refused to grant bail.
Tigran’s wife, Yuki Gambaryan, expressed deep concern over her husband’s condition, revealing that he suffers from a severe herniated disc, which has left him unable to walk unaided. “Tigran’s health is worsening in Kuje Prison, where medical facilities are inadequate to provide the specialized treatment he desperately needs,” she said.
Several doctors, including the prison’s medical personnel, have confirmed that Tigran requires urgent specialized care, which the prison cannot offer. Yuki lamented the injustice of denying her husband proper medical attention, saying, “It is unjust to deny someone in Tigran’s condition the opportunity to seek medical help. I just pray that the damage he is suffering isn’t irreversible by the time he is released.”
The family’s legal team pointed out that the bail denial goes against established legal precedent in Nigeria, where bail is routinely granted on humanitarian and medical grounds. “This decision raises serious concerns about the fairness of the judicial process and the protection of basic human rights,” Yuki added.
Despite the rejection of bail, the trial continued with the cross-examination of a Central Bank witness in the ongoing Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) proceedings. Tigran’s family and legal team are urging Nigerian authorities to reconsider the decision before his condition becomes irreparable
