Tinubu in Brazil: Nigeria Must Lead Africa’s Progress

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians at home and abroad to rally behind his administration’s vision of placing Nigeria at the forefront of Africa’s development.

Speaking during an engagement with the Nigerian community in Brazil on Wednesday, the President stressed that his government is prioritizing technology, food security, and reform-driven growth to fast-track national progress, taking cues from countries like Brazil.

“We must bring Nigeria to the forefront of Africa’s progress, powered by technology, food sovereignty, and the courage to shape our destiny,” Tinubu said in a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.

He described his visit to Brazil as a strategic step to deepen bilateral relations while also drawing lessons from the South American nation’s economic journey. He noted that Nigeria and Brazil once shared similar starting points but have since taken different paths.

“Once upon a time, Nigeria and Brazil stood at the same level. Look at Brazil today — its technology, its food systems. What do they have that we don’t? We have the brains, the energy, the youth. We have everything we need. Now, we must act,” he said.

The President hailed the Nigerian diaspora community in Brazil as ambassadors of the nation’s resilience and diversity, urging them to continue contributing to the country’s rebirth through innovation, culture, and shared responsibility.

“You are the pride of our nation. Your diversity and commitment reflect the Nigeria we are building. I salute you all,” he added.

Acknowledging the current hardships caused by ongoing economic reforms, Tinubu likened them to “bitter medicine” that ultimately brings healing, insisting the measures are crucial to long-term stability and prosperity.

He further explained that his administration is laying a foundation for stronger global partnerships to unlock Nigeria’s potential in technology, manufacturing, and cultural exchange.

The President also encouraged Nigerians to embrace unity and passion in order to build a country that future generations would be proud of.

“If Wole Soyinka, at over 90, can still dream and act, then we have no excuse. The dream must be realised. The time is now,” Tinubu said.
