Orth Central Leaders Reject PDP Zoning, Warn of 2027 Voter Backlash

Leaders of the North Central Renaissance Movement have strongly opposed the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, describing the move as unfair and a continuation of the region’s political neglect.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the Chairperson of the movement, Prof. K’tso Nghargbu, said the North Central remains the only zone yet to produce a civilian President or Vice President since independence, despite being central to Nigeria’s unity and development.

He cautioned that both PDP and APC risk losing millions of votes if they continue to sideline the region in their power-sharing arrangements. According to him, the agitation of the North Central is not about selfish politics but about fairness, justice, and true inclusion in national leadership.

“Zoning should not end at North and South. Within these blocs, equity demands that zones that have never been given the chance be considered. Since 1960, every other region has tested civilian leadership except the North Central. Our people are tired of recycled and uninspiring leaders. We deserve our fair share,” Nghargbu declared.

The movement pointed to the region’s vast contributions—being Nigeria’s food basket, a hub of power generation with the Shiroro and Kainji dams, and the richest in solid minerals—yet lamented that successive governments and parties continue to overlook its political aspirations.

Prof. Nghargbu stressed that the North Central has always championed peaceful and intellectual struggle rather than violence, insisting that the push for recognition will continue until equity is achieved.

He added that young people in the region are increasingly demanding fresh leadership rooted in fairness and inclusion, warning that ignoring this call could have serious consequences for political parties in the 2027 general elections.
