Actress and filmmaker, Etinosa Idemudia, has revealed that she underwent cosmetic surgery as a result of years of bullying and ridicule over her body.
Speaking in an interview with Sunday Scoop, Idemudia said negative comments about her stomach deeply affected her self-esteem, though she tried to remain positive. She explained that her weight issues were largely caused by Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a condition many critics were unaware of.
“I have been constantly bullied and mocked for my stomach. It affected me, but I tried to stay positive. My fat is largely caused by PCOS, but many people don’t know. We should all be kind to one another because everyone is dealing with something,” she said.
Idemudia noted that she found confidence in a Lagos-based medical facility. “I discovered Heritage Hospital online, and after consultation, their doctors addressed all my fears and concerns. For the first time, I felt I could trust a clinic,” she added.
The actress recently sparked discussions after disclosing on Instagram that she had undergone liposuction. According to her, the decision was also influenced by her career in entertainment, where appearance is critical.
“Looking good is part of the job. My decision came from the need to look my age. Sometimes, fat makes you look older,” she explained.
Responding to critics who insist on prioritising natural fitness over cosmetic procedures, Idemudia dismissed such arguments as “ignorant.”
“Whether you achieve a great body naturally or surgically, it doesn’t matter. If you can afford a qualified surgeon and a standard hospital, go ahead and have peace of mind. Science exists to make life easier. The world is evolving,” she said.
The actress added that her new body has boosted her self-confidence. “As an actor, looks and skill go hand in hand. Talent is important, but I now feel more confident and ready to keep building on the work I’ve started in Nollywood,” she stated.
