In a recent sit-down with Complex News, legendary rapper and actress Eve opened up about her current music obsessions, and Afrobeat topped the list.
The Ruff Ryders icon, known for her trailblazing run in the late ’90s and early 2000s, shared that she’s deeply into Afrobeat and Afrohouse these days, calling them her go-to sounds when she’s vibing. “I listen to a lot of Afrobeat,” Eve said. “I love Afrohouse. That’s probably my go-to. And dance, I listen to a lot of dance music actually.”
But it didn’t stop there. When asked to name names, Eve didn’t hesitate. “We were just riding here to Adekunle Gold. I think he’s so super dope,” she gushed. She also praised Burna Boy, saying she was “on it immediately” when he first emerged, and showed love to Tiwa Savage for her continued excellence and influence in the scene.
Eve also mentioned that she’s currently loving the new Clipse album, describing it as “everything,” but made it clear that Afrobeat holds a special place in her playlist.
Her glowing endorsement of Nigerian stars like Adekunle Gold, Burna Boy, and Tiwa Savage is another reflection of the global wave Afrobeat is riding right now. It’s not just fans on the continent, music lovers and icons across the globe are tuning in and turning up.
