Sapele Local Government Chairman Hon. Bright Abeke is free after 10-11 days in kidnappers’ den.
Honourable Bright Abeke was abducted on April 10, 2026 when some Gunmen stormed Debrofred Hotel along Owumi Road in Sapele, owned by him. The assailants arrived in a Range Rover, shot sporadically, and abducted him. A vigilante guard identified as Ufuoma and Abeke’s security detail sustained gunshot injuries.

Abeke regained freedom 10-11 days later. He was seen in a viral photo with Olorogun Jaro Egbo, chairman of Ughelli North LGA, shortly after his release. Details of his release, including whether a ransom was paid, remain unclear” as Delta State PPRO SP Bright Edafe had not responded to the reported release as of press time. Security agencies led by Delta State Police Command had been on the trail of the captors since April 10.
This is not the first time a Delta Local Government Chairman has been abducted in the state with Warri North LGA Chairman Aduge Okorodudu been kidnapped on a Saturday night and released after 3 days in 2020. Isoko North Vice Chairman Frank Esiwo Ozue had also spent 3 days in captivity, with family reportedly paying N7 million ransom.
This incident has sparked concern across Delta State, with residents and political stakeholders calling for intensified security measures to curb rising cases of kidnapping and violent crimes.
