Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has recently shown his dissatisfaction at contractor in charge of the reconstruction of the Warri stadium with the Governor voicing out that the work was supposed to be completed as at December 2025. The Governor who was doing an inspection tour on the stadium on Tuesday April 14, said: “I wasn’t smiling because we have an agreement with the contractor.
The agreement is for the contractor to finish in December, and now we are in April, timelines must be respected”
He then went on to say that despite the delay he pardon the contractor but further delay by him (the contractor) will result to public scrutiny stating: “If he fails us again, we will expose him”.
Despite the delay of the reconstruction Governor Sheriff praised the quality of the pitch describing it as satisfactory.
“We have paid for quality, not something that will fade in a few years. This cladding you are seeing is temporary; it will be removed only durable materials that can stand the test of time would be accepted.”
He then announced that he is optimistic that the stadium will be capable of hosting major sports events . He also revealed he has plans of reconstructing The Late Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba capital of the state.

Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau accompanied Governor Sheriff and he also praised the quality of the pitch and assured the Governor that NFF will support the state in maintenance of the stadium.
According to Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau however the stadium is not yet ready till September and the Super Eagles of Nigeria can schedule a match on it once it’s complete.
