Several ASUU members and lecturers from various federal universities have denied receiving the salary increase, stating that their January 2026 salaries remain unchanged.
The Federal Government of Nigeria claims to have implemented a 40% increase in the Consolidated Academic Allowance (CAA) for Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) members, effective from January 1, 2026 and on Monday February 9, claimed to have begin the payment.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, announced that the government has fulfilled its obligation to implement the 40% CAA increase, with some federal universities already reflecting the approved increase in their salary payments. The government has also approved a Professorial Cadre Allowance, with full Professors receiving N1.74m annually and Readers earning N840,000 per annum.
Despite this, lecturers from universities such as University of Lagos, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, University of Port Harcourt, and Federal University, Lokoja, have confirmed that they have not received the salary increase. Only the University of Jos (UNIJOS) has confirmed benefiting from the new package.
