President Bola Tinubu has emphasized that his directive to withdraw police officers from VIP and VVIP security details is non-negotiable and must be enforced immediately.
During a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, Tinubu made it clear that ministers and government officials are expected to comply without delay, and any objections should be directed to the Inspector General of Police.
In his remarks, the President underscored that the police force is trained to safeguard all citizens, particularly vulnerable populations, rather than focusing on protecting a select few.
To ensure a smooth rollout of the policy, Tinubu has tasked the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, with overseeing its implementation. The move aims to refocus the police’s role on broader public safety.
