Professor Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has passed away at the age of 64. He died on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, after a brief illness, following a successful surgery.
The news was announced by Special Assistant to the Osun State Governor on Digital Media, Olalekan Badmus who tweeted on X “Rest in power, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso. An illustrious son of Ede, Osun State, and Nigeria. What a sad loss!”

Professor Oyeweso was a renowned historian, educator, and mentor who made significant contributions to education and national discourse. He served in various administrative and scholarly capacities, earning recognition for his work. He is survived by his wife, children, and extended family members.
Professor Oyeweso remains will now be laid to rest in his hometown, Ede, Osun State, at 4 pm today, following the Asr prayer.
