The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has on Wednesday November 5, sacked 800 workers as part of its ongoing internal restructuring efforts, citing a “rightsizing process”.
This move comes amid Nigeria’s power crisis, with residents grappling with erratic electricity supply and soaring living costs. The management initially planned to lay off 1,800 workers but reduced the number to 800 after negotiations with labor unions.
The workers were sacked due to an ongoing restructuring, operational inefficiencies, and revenue shortfalls in areas such as the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, Kogi, Niger, and Nasarawa States.
