American singer and songwriter Ciara has recently visited Lagos, Nigeria, her visit colliding with the Lagos Fashion week 15th Anniversary.
Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State announced her visit.
“International Superstar, Grammy Award Winner, CIARA Princess Wilson is in Lagos, accompanied by the Commissioner for Tourism, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka She will be joining us in Lagos to celebrate our Tourism, our Art, and our culture.
It’s a homecoming for her and other creatives who see Lagos as home. She would visit different cultural sites in Lagos and also celebrate the successful hosting of the 15th anniversary of the Lagos Fashion Week in collaboration with Lagos State Government.” he wrote on his X.
During her city tour, she donned traditional Adire attire, showcasing her appreciation for Nigerian heritage. Adire is a classic Yoruba textile known for its beautiful hand-dyed patterns created using resist-dyeing techniques.
The Grammy Award winner expressed admiration for the city’s growth and vibrant culture saying the city has improved from how it was on her first visit which was in February 2016 for the “Love like a movie” concert at the Eko Conventional Centre.
In her words she said: “I’m happy to be here. I’m really excited, I know about Lagos. Lagos, from what I see, I’ve seen an evolution of Lagos. When I used to land, I used to see all the dirt roads; now what I see is pavement.”
Born in the United States in the year 1985, Ciara began her musical career in 2003 her studio albums includes Goodies (2004), Ciara: The Evolution (2006), Ciara (2013), Cici (2025) amongst others. She was dubbed “Princess of crunk” after releasing the single “Goodies” being nominated for the Grammys five times and winning one in the year 2006 for the music video “Lose Control”.
