A fatal accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, specifically on the Kara Bridge, on Wednesday October 29 30resulting in the deaths of a police inspector and four others. The crash involved multiple trucks, including a fuel tanker, which collided on the bridge, causing a massive gridlock and confusion along the highway.
According to reports, the accident happened due to brake failure, and the impact was severe enough to sever the head of one of the trucks, causing it to plunge into the river. The police have confirmed that those responsible for the accident will be prosecuted.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority reported eight casualties, while the police confirmed six deaths, including the police officer and 3 injuries.
“The crash happened around a few minutes past 9 p.m., and immediately after it occurred, another truck coming from behind rammed into one of the trucks forcefully.
The impact was heavy, and that was why the detached head burst into flames. Nobody could go near at that moment because the fire was very fierce.” An eye witness of the incident reported.
Moshood Jimoh, Commissioner of Lagos State mourned the Police inspector who lost his life in the process of trying to help the situation.
“It’s very unfortunate that we lost one of our police inspectors who came with our advance team to salvage the situation,” he said.
