SPORTS: SUPER FALCONS BOOK TICKET FOR 2026 WAFCON AFTER DRAW AGAINST BENIN REP. IN ABEOKUTA.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have qualified for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after securing a 1-1 draw against the Benin Republic in the return leg of the final qualification round. The aggregate score was 3-1 in favor of Nigeria, who won the first leg 2-0 in Lomé, Togo.

The match was played at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. Ashley Plumptre scored the opening goal for Nigeria in the 12th minute with a powerful header from Esther Okoronkwo’s corner. Yasminath Djibril equalized for Benin Republic in the 60th minute with a well-taken free-kick. Despite the draw, Nigeria’s aggregate victory secured their spot in the 2026 WAFCON.


Super Falcons will now seek to defend their title and win their 11th continental crown as the tournament will be held in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, 2026.
