The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, along with six other protesters during a #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja. The arrests were made when the protesters attempted to access restricted areas, defying police warnings.
According to the police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the protesters were taken into custody for disobeying a court order and disrupting public peace.
“Yes, we arrested his brother and his lawyer too, because they insisted on gaining access to restricted areas. They were not the only ones we arrested six others for the same reason, making a total of eight.
Once investigations are concluded, they will be prosecuted immediately, The protesters were unruly and adamant despite prior warnings issued on Saturday based on a valid court order. That was why security operatives used minimal force, including tear gas, to restore order,” Benjamin Hundeyin stated.
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the arrests and demanded the immediate release of Kanu’s brother and lawyer. The protesters were demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Nnamdi Kanu has been apprehended in Police custody since 2021 and is due to soon stand trial.
