A tragic incident occurred in Mosogar Community, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, where suspected cultists attacked and stabbed to death Joshua Umukoro, a serving Anti-Cult member under the Sapele Police Command. The attack happened during a meeting Umukoro attended, on Sunday, October 12 despite warnings and previous threats from the cultists. One member of the group was injured, while another escaped.
Umukoro’s cousin, Efemena Umukoro, a human rights activist, has called on the Delta State Police Command to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“I was supposed to be in that meeting, but I declined to attend. The suspected cultists had threatened to kill him because he was using his Anti-Cult group to arrest their members and hand them over to the Police. They said he was a stumbling block and vowed they were going to take him out.
I warned him not to go but being that he likes to get results at all costs, he went. Getting there, he met strange people; he was ambushed and stabbed in the neck. They injured another person who is critically ill and hospitalized, receiving treatment.
We are praying to God that he survives. One person escaped, We want the Delta State Police Command, led by CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, to look into this issue and unravel the mystery behind the death. He is a gallant CP who has not failed us in Delta. The only thing he can do is to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.” Efemena said.
The police have not yet confirmed the incident, with spokesperson SP Bright Edafe stating that the matter is still under investigation.
