Ten teachers narrowly escaped death in a bus accident while returning from the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) celebration in Delta State. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Akiowhe Community, when the driver attempted to overtake a moving truck and rammed into it. The impact was severe, causing significant damage to the bus.
10 teachers were injured, with four in critical condition, including the driver who broke his thigh. The front of the bus and its engine were badly damaged, with the front door broken.
“The accident was avoidable if the driver had been careful as it rained heavily that day. The driver was on top speed as he attempted to overtake the truck and he rammed into it from behind.
About ten of the teachers were injured, but four were in critical state as the driver broke his thigh. It took efforts of community people and passersby to revive one of them who was unconscious”. An Eye witness said.
Community members and passersby rushed to the scene to rescue the unconscious passengers.
Two of the victims expressed gratitude to God for saving them while receiving treatment at the hospital.
“We thank God for saving our lives. We thought we were going to die. But we are alive, it was a divine escape,” they said.
