The Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected Minister Uche Nnaji’s bid to block the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) from releasing his academic records. Justice Hausa Yilwa ruled that while Nnaji had a legitimate interest in the matter, his request for an injunction lacked merit.
The court granted prayers 1, 2, and 3 of Nnaji’s application but declined prayer 4, which sought an injunction to restrain UNN from releasing his records. The university maintains that Nnaji did not complete his studies and therefore did not issue him a certificate. This stance is consistent with a letter sent to the Public Complaints Commission in May 2025. Nnaji admitted that he had not collected his degree certificate, despite claiming to have graduated in 1985. The ruling has sparked debates about academic transparency and the integrity of credentials submitted for public office.
The case has raised concerns about the authenticity of Nnaji’s academic credentials, with some questioning his eligibility for public office. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has also reportedly disowned the discharge certificate attributed to Nnaji, saying it was never issued by them.
