NEWS: US EMBASSY IN NIGERIA TEMPORARILY SOCIAL MEDIA UPDATES.

The US Embassy in Nigeria has temporarily suspended its social media updates due to the ongoing government shutdown in Washington, caused by a budget impasse. This suspension affects non-essential communications, but critical services like consular assistance for US citizens and emergency visa processing will continue.

“Due to the lapse in appropriations, this X account will not be updated regularly until full operations resume, with the exception of urgent safety and security information”. The Embassy noted in a statement released on Wednesday October 1.

The shutdown is triggered by a lapse in appropriations, resulting from lawmakers’ failure to pass a budget agreement. Consular services, including passport issuance and visa processing, will continue as the situation permits. The embassy will still share urgent safety and security information during the suspension. US Embassies worldwide, including Nigeria, have issued similar notices limiting posts to emergency information.

The embassy will resume regular updates once full operations are restored. For now, Nigerians seeking visa services or other consular assistance should still attend scheduled appointments, but potential delays are possible if the funding standoff continues.
