The Nigerian Senate has unsealed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office, potentially paving the way for her return to legislative duties after a six-month suspension. The suspension, which began on March 6, 2025, was due to alleged misconduct and violation of Senate Standing Rules, specifically related to a seating arrangement dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly, along with security personnel, officially unsealed Senator Natasha’s office, located in Room 205 of the Senate wing. With her office now accessible, Senator Natasha may resume her duties, although the Senate’s stance on her suspension remains uncertain.
Prior to the unsealing, Senator Natasha had threatened to sue the Clerk of the National Assembly if her resumption wasn’t facilitated by September 15, 2025.
The suspension was initially imposed due to allegations of misconduct, with Senator Natasha accusing Senate President Akpabio of sexual harassment.
The Senate, however, maintained that the suspension was due to her unruly behavior and not related to the harassment allegations.
Senator Natasha’s return could impact the Senate’s dynamics, particularly given the ongoing tensions with Senate President Akpabio.
The matter is still before the Court of Appeal, and the Senate’s decision to unseal her office may not necessarily mean her suspension is lifted.
