Kano State has emerged as the top-performing state in the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO). Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration attributed this achievement to the sweeping reforms and sustained investment in the education sector.
68,159 candidates from Kano State secured five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, accounting for 5.020% of the national total.
Kano State led the nation, followed by Lagos with 67,007 candidates (4.930%) and Oyo with 48,742 candidates.
Kano State allocated 31% of its 2025 budget to education, demonstrating its commitment to improving the sector.
The state’s education reforms includes Free uniforms and learning materials provided to pupils to boost enrollment and ease parental burden, Scholarships and funding for tertiary institutions to expand opportunities for Kano indigenes, targeted initiatives to promote girl-child education and reduce out-of-school children, recruitment and continuous training of teachers to raise the standard of instruction, and massive rehabilitation of dilapidated classrooms and provision of furniture.

It is a testament to the fact that when we prioritize education, invest in our teachers, and ensure access to quality learning, the results speak for themselves” Governor Yusuf expressed elation over the achievement, reaffirming his commitment to deepening reforms and lauding the contributions of stakeholders in the education sector.
