Owen Cooper, a 15-year-old British actor, has made history by becoming the youngest male winner of an Emmy Award. He won the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category for his powerful performance as Jamie Miller in Netflix’s drama series “Adolescence”.
Cooper broke a 50-year record previously held by Scott Jacoby, who won an Emmy at age 16 for his role in “That Certain Summer”. Cooper is the youngest male actor to win an Emmy, surpassing previous young winners like Zendaya, who won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at age 24 for “Euphoria”.
Cooper’s portrayal of Jamie Miller, a radicalized teenager, earned widespread acclaim and recognition within the industry.
“Adolescence” has been a hit on Netflix, becoming the second most-watched Netflix title ever with over 540 million hours viewed.
Cooper is set to play the young Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s upcoming adaptation of “Wuthering Heights” (2026) and appear in the BBC Three series “Film Club”.
This was Cooper’s first professional acting role, which he landed at age 14 after being chosen from over 500 auditions.
