TikToker Peller, has expressed dismay over the state of the nation, sharing how his friend moved all the way from Ikorodu to Lagos Island just to eat celebrity chef Hilda Baci’s Jollof rice.
Peller made this known on X in a video that is now viral. He said the name of the friend is Taiwo and he knows him from Ikorodu. The Tiktoker said he was shocked that Taiwo had to make a move all the way from Ikorodu to Lagos Island to attend Hilda Baci’s cooking event and have a taste. Peller said his friend life has “bend” addressing him in Nigeria Pidgin.
“That Hilda Baci’s cooking event [made me realise] Nigerians are very hungry. E get one of my friends that time, from Ikorodu him come Hilda Baci’s cooking event, I swear to God. Hilda Baci’s massive Jollof rice cookathon, which drew over 20,000 attendees, seems to have sparked a mix of reactions online. Some social media users compared the attendance to the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s (RCCG) convention, joking about the motivations behind the crowds. Some said Nigerian youths are so lazy and distracted leaving the important things of the country to attend the cooking and eat. Some praised Hilda Baci and applaud those that came out to support her.
Hilda Baci aimed to cook the world’s largest pot of Jollof rice, using 4,000 kg of rice and other ingredients.
Over 20,000 people registered to attend, with many showing up to support Hilda and enjoy the free Jollof rice.
The event was seen as a celebration of West African culture, music, and community spirit, with Hilda emphasizing the significance of Jollof rice in Nigerian cuisine.
The giant pot broke during the weighing process, but the event still managed to distribute thousands of servings of Jollof rice to attendees.
The event’s success in drawing large crowds highlights the power of food in bringing people together and celebrating cultural heritage.
