NEWS: INEC SHORTLISTS 14 ASSOCIATIONS FOR POLITICAL PARTY REGISTRATION.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has shortlisted 14 associations, including the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), for registration as political parties. This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by Sam Olumekun National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, after INEC’s regular meeting in Abuja.


INEC received 171 applications from different groups, but only 14 met the initial requirements to proceed to the next stage, while 157 others fell short of the conditions set out in the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and the commission’s guidelines.The 14 associations have met the initial requirements outlined in Section 222 of the 1999 Constitution and Section 79 of the Electoral Act 2022.

Here are the list of the 14 pre-qualified associations:
•⁠ ⁠African Transformation Party (ATP)
•⁠ ⁠All Democratic Alliance (ADA), speculated to be a platform for opposition coalitions against President Bola Tinubu’s government
•⁠ ⁠Advance Nigeria Congress (ANC)
•⁠ ⁠Abundance Social Party (ASP)
•⁠ ⁠African Alliance Party (AAP)
•⁠ ⁠Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA)
•⁠ ⁠Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA)
•⁠ ⁠Grassroots Initiative Party (GRIP)
•⁠ ⁠Green Future Party (GFP)
•⁠ ⁠Liberation People’s Party (LPP)
•⁠ ⁠National Democratic Party (NDP)
•⁠ ⁠National Reform Party (NRP)
•⁠ ⁠Patriotic Peoples Alliance (PPA)
•⁠ ⁠Peoples Freedom Party (PFP)

These associations will undergo physical verification of their claims before INEC makes a final decision on their registration status. The interim chairmen and secretaries of the pre-qualified associations have been invited to a briefing at INEC Headquarters in Abuja on September 17, 2025.
