Executive Summary
Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully foiled a terrorist ambush in Borno State, killing 13 Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents and recovering arms and ammunition.
The ambush occurred on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, while troops were escorting humanitarian trucks along the Gubio-Damasak road.
13 insurgents were neutralized instantly, while others fled in disarray.
Recovered items were
– 8 AK-47 rifles
– 10 AK-47 magazines
– Large cache of 7.62mm ammunition
– Camel bags
– Several rolls of detonating cord wires
– Primed Improvised and Explosive Devices (IEDs).
One soldier sustained a minor injury and is in stable condition. Four Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) tyres were damaged, and two trucks were destroyed by fire during the exchange. “The gallant troops swiftly took position and professionally suppressed the insurgents with overwhelming firepower, eliminating 13 instantly, while others fled in disarray,” Sani Uba, spokesman of operation Hadin Kai said.
The ambush occurred near Kareto in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.
Insurgents detonated two command IEDs and opened heavy fire on the convoy. Troops swiftly took position and professionally suppressed the insurgents with overwhelming firepower.
Troops have intensified clearance operations in the area to deny terrorists freedom of movement and ensure safe corridors for humanitarian access.
Despite the attack, the convoy successfully completed its mission, delivering humanitarian supplies to Damasak.
