AFRIMA 2025: Burna Boy, Davido, Shallipopi, Juma Jux Lead the Pack in Nominations

Nigerian music heavyweights Burna Boy and Davido have emerged as frontrunners at the 2025 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), securing five nominations apiece. The continental awards body unveiled its highly anticipated nominee list, spotlighting stars from across Africa.

Both Burna Boy’s acclaimed project No Sign of Weakness and Davido’s chart-topping album 5ive earned nods for Album of the Year, while the pair also locked in nominations for Song of the Year and Best Collaboration.

Joining them at the top is South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa, who also scored five nominations, including Best African DJ and Album of the Year. Moroccan rap sensation El Grande Toto matched the tally with five nominations, powered by his hits Salgoat and Diplomatico.

Nigeria’s fast-rising street-pop act Shallipopi continued his meteoric rise with four nominations, among them Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year. On the East African front, Diamond Platnumz maintained his dominance with four nods, while South African breakout star Tyla secured four nominations as well.

Tanzanian crooner Juma Jux also made a strong showing with three nominations, including Song of the Year for his hit Ololufe Mi. Fellow Nigerians Rema and Ayra Starr earned three nominations each, further underlining Nigeria’s stronghold on the continental music scene.
