SPORTS: EPL: CHELSEA SACKS HEAD COACH ROSENIOR AFTER JUST 4 MONTHS.

Premier league club Chelsea has sacked head coach Liam Rosenior on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 ending his spell after just 3 months, 16 days and 23 games in charge.

Liam Rosenior was sacked after a 3-0 loss to Brighton on Tuesday, April 21. Rosenior called the defeat “unacceptable” and “indefensible”.
It was 5 consecutive Premier League defeats with 0 goals scored for Chelsea the club’s worst goalless run since 1912, the year the Titanic sank. Overall it was
7 losses in last 8 games across all competitions with PSG 8-2 aggregate Champions League thrashing.
The Blues are currently 7th with 34 games played, 7 points off Champions League places. Chelsea had slipped behind Brighton into 7th after the loss. Next year’s Champions league football now seems unlikely.

Liam Rosenior was appointed January 6, 2026, replacing Enzo Maresca. He had signed a 6.5-year deal through 2032 having moved from sister club Strasbourg where he had them 7th in Ligue 1.

He did start well in office with 6 wins in first 7 games, including Champions League knockout stage 3-2 comeback win over SS Napoli.

But Since March, Chelsea had lost to Newcastle, Everton 3-0, and were hammered by PSG.They then fail to score in 3 straight league games for first time since 2023.

The Club made the sack known in a statement which reads: “This has not been a decision the club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season.Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism”.

Assistant Calum McFarlane will take charge until end of season starting with
FA Cup semifinal vs Leeds United on Sunday, April 26 at Wembley.
The Club says it will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment. Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva, and Edin Terzic reportedly under consideration

Rosenior is expected to receive a £4M pay-off, equivalent to a year’s wages.
