President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga has countered Former Vice President and 2023 PDP Presidential Candidate Atiku Abubakar that President Tinubu will complete his eight-year tenure as President of Nigeria, hinting that he (Atiku) will surely lose the upcoming 2027 elections to Tinubu again just as he lost the one of 2023.
Onanuga said this on X on Thursday April 16, in response to Atiku who talked about the breakdown of distribution of Presidential power between the North and the South saying the North has only ruled for 10 years and the South 18.
Onanuga criticised Atiku saying Atiku’s comments were “self-serving” trying to disrupt Nigeria power rotation at the Presidential level.
“Once again, Abubakar Atiku has put forward a self-serving argument to justify his attempt to disrupt Nigeria’s power rotation arrangement, In 2023, as a member of the PDP—a party that, like others, practices zoning—Atiku disregarded the established formula and sought to succeed a fellow northerner, who had spent eight years in office. His ambition fractured the PDP, leading to his resounding defeat at the polls. Now, he stands poised to repeat history and face another doom. Another spectacular failure awaits this perennial candidate in the next election. He conveniently overlooks the fact that the North’s shorter tenure was due to the untimely death of President Umaru Yar’Adua, which led to President Jonathan’s succession. This accidental breach does not invalidate the power rotation arrangement between the North and the South. Since Buhari completed his eight years, Tinubu too must complete his own.
Atiku is seeking to win Presidential election for the fourth time under African Democratic Congress (ADC) and has said it will be his last shot having lost 2011 to Goodluck Jonathan, 2019 to Muhammadu Buhari and 2023 to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
