Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved a significant salary increase for doctors, boosting their monthly pay by ₦200,000. Entry-level doctors will now earn ₦570,000, up from ₦370,000, while house officers will receive ₦350,000, up from ₦250,000, plus a ₦100,000 tax-free allowance.
The government explained that it aims to address the shortage of medical professionals and improve healthcare services in the state. Despite receiving over 6,000 applications for 700 health worker positions, the state struggled to attract qualified doctors, prompting the move to increase the salaries.
