Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido lost the Best African Music Performance award to Tyla at the 2026 Grammy Awards. Tyla won with her hit song “Push 2 Start”, beating strong competition from Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Wizkid, and Davido himself, who was nominated with “With You” featuring Omah Lay.
The young South African artiste secured the honour with her viral record, “Push 2 Start,” ahead of Burna Boy’s “Love,” Davido and Omah Lay’s collaboration “With You,” Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s “Gimme Dat,” as well as Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s “Hope & Love.” The award marks her second Grammy win her first being 2024 Best African Music Performance for her hit single “water” an award she also won beating out hosts of Nigerian Artistes including Davido, Asake, Olamide and Ayra Starr.
Nigerian music fans were disappointed, with some taking to social media to express their outrage, feeling Davido was robbed of the award. Fellow Nigerian artists like Olamide and Cubana Chiefpriest weighed in, urging calm and praising Davido’s hard work.
