NEWS: FCT WORKERS ORDERED BY COURT TO SUSPEND STRIKE.

The National Industrial Court in Abuja has ordered FCT workers to suspend their ongoing strike, citing Section 18(1)(b) of the Trade Dispute Act, which prohibits strikes over disputes already referred to the court. The court ruled that the workers’ right to strike is not absolute and must cease pending the determination of the case. “An order of interlocutory injunction is hereby granted, restraining the claimants and representatives… from further embarking on any industrial action against the claimant. The order shall remain in force, pending the determination of this suit,” the judge said threatening sanction if they fail to comply.

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had filed a suit seeking to halt the strike, arguing it was illegal and would cripple government operations.

The strike, which began on January 19, 2026, was sparked by unresolved welfare issues, including unpaid salaries, promotion arrears, and poor working conditions. The court has adjourned the hearing to March 23, 2026.
