Nollywood actor, Kunle Remi, has slammed Nigeria as the “worst” stop on IShowSpeed’s African tour, citing a lack of cultural depth and authenticity in Lagos. He expressed disappointment over how the city was represented, saying it focused too much on nightlife and superficial attractions rather than showcasing Nigeria’s rich heritage. “After watching Ishowspeed journey so far, Nigeria is the worst on my own list.
We just really stripped Lagos naked… Seems like we have lost the essence of culture. Our truth! All we have is fake drinks, club and beggy beggy skills,” Remi wrote on Instagram.
Remi’s comments have sparked conversations about how Nigeria is projected globally, with some agreeing that the country’s cultural identity is being overshadowed by entertainment and celebrity lifestyle.
IShowSpeed, who’s on a 28-day tour across Africa, had Nigeria as his 15th stop, celebrating his 21st birthday and reaching 50 million YouTube subscribers.
The tour was marked by many events that got the internet shaking from a woman handing over her baby to Tiktoker Peller snub, to the American streamer hanging out with Tiktoker Jarvis and getting interviewed by Egungun who shockingly said he look “so young and healthy” at 21.
