The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has ordered primary and secondary school teachers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to join the ongoing workers’ strike, effective January 26, 2026.
“All teachers in FCT primary and secondary schools are to stay away from classrooms starting Monday, In pursuit of justice and to demonstrate our collective resolve, we must stand together. A people united can never be defeated,” the union said in a statement .
This decision was made in support of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) strike, which aims to address demands for improved working conditions. Teachers are required to converge at the National Industrial Court in Abuja for a hearing related to the case.
The strike has been ongoing for over two months, causing disruptions to academic programs and affecting students, who are now appealing to the FCT administration and teachers to resolve their differences and call off the strike.
