A suspected cult clash between rival groups in Ughelli, Delta State, has claimed the life of a man identified as Idjesa. The incident occurred on Sunday January 18 night. Confirming the news, Anti-cultism advocacy posted on Telegram:
“Two people were reportedly shot, but one of them escaped with bullet wounds and was not confirmed dead. Despite reports of several killings by cultists, Naija Confra confirmed only this victim as dead. There were also claims that a policeman was killed over the weekend, but that has not been confirmed”.
However, Delta Police PRO, SP Bright Edafe has not been reached since the incidence happened as calls made to him were not answered and texts sent to him had yeild no response.
This isn’t an isolated case, as cult clashes have been reported in the area, often linked to disputes over unpaid debts, land supremacy, or other issues. In recent incidents, multiple lives have been lost in Ughelli and Warri due to cult-related violence. The Delta State Police Command has confirmed some of these incidents and is working to maintain peace and security.
