Afrobeats Singer and the late legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti son, Seun Kuti has addressed Wizkid’s fans, stating that Wizkid stole the nickname “Big Bird” from him. Seun Kuti had previously referred to himself as “Big Bird” in his 2012 song “Ye Peel a”. Wizkid, on the other hand, has been called “Biggest Bird” by his fans, and he even had a performance where he wore a bird costume.
Addressing Wizkid FC in a Livestream, Seun Kuti said “Wizkid stole my name. Tell your fave to be original. Why are you telling me to change my name? Sorry, I can’t change it. This name has been here since. I am the first to come up with it. I am not dragging it with anybody, please.” he also went on to tell them not to compare the Global star with his late father Fela Kuti who is still regarded as one of Nigeria’s music legend.
“It’s an insult to Fela to call Wizkid the new Fela. I can say Wizkid is the greatest singer in the world. I can say Wizkid is the greatest artiste of all time — it carries weight. Why must you now add ‘more than Fela’? If you want Wizkid to be great, he is the greatest. I agree. Just leave my father alone” Seun Kuti cautioned.
