Funke Akindele’s movie “Behind The Scenes” is making waves in Nollywood, becoming the highest-grossing film ever in West Africa, surpassing her own previous record-holder, “Everybody Loves Jenifa” (₦1.8 billion). The film which stars Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Mr. Macaroni, and Ini Dima-Okojie amongst other film stars has grossed over ₦1.935 billion and is still showing in cinemas across Nigeria, the UK, Canada, and the US.
This achievement marks Akindele’s third film to cross the ₦1 billion threshold, solidifying her position as Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer. “Behind The Scenes” broke multiple records, including the highest single-day gross on Boxing Day (₦129.5 million) and the fastest film in West Africa to cross ₦1 billion.
