SPORTS: AFCON: “OSIMHEN-LOOKMAN CLASH RESOLVED” – SUPER EAGLES.

The Super Eagles have released an official statement regarding the clash between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, saying the matter has been resolved within the team and asking everyone to ignore reports suggesting otherwise. The incident occurred during Nigeria’s 4-0 win over Mozambique in the AFCON round of 16 match, with Osimhen confronting Lookman over a perceived lack of passing.
“The matter has been resolved within the team. We advise everyone to ignore all reports suggesting otherwise”, Promise Efoghe, Super Eagles media officer confirmed via the official media channel.

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi who was shoved aside by the angry Osimhen during the confrontation described the incident as a result of a “competitive mindset” and said everything is fine within the squad. Lookman also downplayed the incident, reaffirming his respect for Osimhen and emphasizing the team’s unity. Coach Eric Chelle has reportedly stated that he will handle the situation internally, and there are no plans for Osimhen to leave the tournament.

Nigeria would be looking forward to their quarter-final clash against Algeria on Saturday January 10. They would be hoping to get their revenge on the Desert Foxes who ousted them in the semis of the 2019 AFCON tournament held in Egypt. Riyad Mahrez late free kick gave Algeria a 2-1 victory and sent them to the final where they won Senegal 1-0 to claim the continental prize while Nigeria edged out Tunisia 1-0 in 3rd place match to bring home the Bronze.
