Tunisia has parted ways with coach Sami Trabelsi after their early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025. The decision was made by mutual consent, with the Tunisian Football Federation citing the team’s failure to progress beyond the Round of 16 as the reason.
“The Executive Committee has decided to terminate the contractual relationship by mutual consent with the entire technical staff of the national team,” Tunisian football website wrote barely 24 hours after the Mali defeat.
Tunisia lost to Mali in a penalty shootout after the match ended 1-1 after extra time.
Trabelsi, 57, had taken charge of the team in February 2025 for his second term, having previously led the national team from 2011 to 2013. Despite qualifying for the 2026 World Cup unbeaten, the team’s AFCON performance was deemed disappointing, especially given their past successes, including lifting the title on home soil in 2004.
