SPORTS: AFCON: EGYPT EDGE OUT BENIN AFTER EXTRA TIME AS NIGERIA THRASH MOZAMBIQUE 4 – 0 TO ADVANCE TO THE QUARTERS

Egypt and Nigeria are through to the quarter-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Egypt beat Benin Republic 3-1 after extra time, thanks to a late goal from Mohamed Salah. Marwan Attia had put Egypt ahead in the 69th minute, but Benin equalized through Jodel Dossou in the 83rd minute.

Yasser Ibrahim then scored a header in extra time, and Salah sealed the win with a composed finish in a devastating counter attack as Benin moved forward in the added minutes of extra time seeking a goal to tie the score and send the game to penalties.

Meanwhile, in the other round of 16 clash the Super Eagles of Nigeria crushed Mozambique 4-0, with red hot striker Victor Osimhen grabbing a brace. Atalanta’s talisman Ademola Lookman opened the scoring in the 20th minute, and Osimhen added two more goals, before Akor Adams rounded off the scoring by adding the fourth.

Egypt will now wait to face the winner of Burkina Faso and Cote D’Ivoire on Tuesday January 6, while Nigeria will be eager to face the winner of Algeria and DR Congo.
