Manchester United has sacked Ruben Amorim as their head coach after just 14 months in charge. Amorim’s tenure was marked by inconsistent performances, with the team currently sitting sixth in the Premier League. The decision to sack him was reportedly made due to a breakdown in relations behind the scenes, including disagreements with director of football Jason Wilcox.
Amorim had been vocal about wanting full authority as manager, rather than just being a head coach. He expressed frustration over limited backing in the January transfer window and pressure from club executives to alter his tactical approach.
Darren Fletcher, a five-time Premier League winner with Manchester United, is expected to take over as interim manager, with his first game against Burnley on Wednesday night.
Manchester United are currently 6th on the Premier League after gameweek 20 winning 8, drawing 7 and losing 5. They are also out of the English Football League Cup via a defeat to League two sides Grimsby Town FC through penalties shootout in September and they are not participating in any European competitions this term having finished 15th last season.
